Performance-loving Ffion accepted at Hijinx Academy

A student’s love of performance has earned her a place at Hijinx Academy, the only professional performance training course for actors with learning disabilities in Wales.

Ffion Gwyther, 21, from Llanelli, is currently studying a foundation course at Coleg Sir Gâr’s Graig campus in Llanelli, a course that helps those returning to education or need additional support with their studies.

The college helped Ffion on her performance journey by creating a specialist study option on their foundation course, which enabled her to study performing arts as one of her specialist subjects, allowing her to finish college with a level one certificate in performing arts.

Ffion has risen through the educational ranks at the college, starting with an entry-level course, which teaches life skills and an introduction to college, to a pre-foundation and foundation course.

Kim Goodwin, head of foundation at Coleg Sir Gâr said: “Ffion has absolutely loved the course this year and has been a joy, bringing positivity and enthusiasm for everything along with a very high attendance.

“I’m delighted we were able to create a pathway into performing arts for her as we knew this would be Ffion’s last year in college so we’re thrilled that she’s progressing to a prestigious academy.”

No stranger to the stage, Ffion is active in treading the boards and has previously appeared in the British comedy-drama, Stella.
