eduroam @ Coleg Sir Gar

To use the Coleg Sir Gar wireless network, called eduroam, you will need:

  • a computer or device with a wireless card
  • to be in range of a wireless hotspot. Campus wireless is available in:

How to use eduroam

To use eduroam you must first set up your computer/ device to use eduroam. Please find the relevant operating system of your device further down this page, and you will find all of the information relating to that device.

About eduroam

eduroam (education roaming) is the secure, wireless internet roaming access service developed for the research and education community.

eduroam allows students, researchers and staff to obtain Internet connectivity across campus and when visiting other participating institutions by simply opening their laptop.  (http://www.eduroam.org/) (https://www.ja.net/products-services/janet-connect/eduroam)

eduroam is a wireless network service for laptops/PC's/Mobile phones, and other supported devices, which makes use of more secure and efficient technologies to allow, you. the users to connect safely to the internet. Based on 802.1x authentication technology this service supports most devices, however there are some devices such as game colsoles which are not supported by the eduroam service.

Important Information

There is some important information you should read before you make use of the wirelss network. It is important that you have a supported operating system; you can see the list of supported operating systems by viewing the links in the navigation bar. It is also very important that your operating system is up to date and protected by antivirus software. You may at some point require help. If you do require help or assistance, you can follow the usual problem reporting process to advise us of any problem you have with configuring your computer, issues with signal strength or wireless reception.

Eduroam Android

  1. Go to the Settings App
  2. Select Wi-Fi
  3. Select the eduroam network.
  4. Make sure the following settings are correct:
    EAP Method: PEAP
    Phase-2 authentication: None
  5. Enter your College login details This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. & the password (leave the ‘anonymous indentity’ box empty).
  6. Click Connect

You should now be connected to eduroam.

Eduroam Apple IOS

Manual Configuration – iPod, iPad, iPhone

  1. Go to the Settings App
  2. Select Wi-Fi
  3. Select the eduroam network
  4. Enter your College login details This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. & the password
  5. Click Join
  6. A ColegSirGar certificate page will appear, select Trust in the top right

You should now be connected to eduroam.

Eduroam Apple OS

Installer

    1. Download the tool from https://cat.eduroam.org/ make sure to download the version of the OS you are running on your iMac/MacBook.
    2. Run the installer
    3. Go through the installer until it asks for college login details. Enter your username as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and your password.
    4. Go through the remaining steps of the installer.
    5. >/ol>

You should now be connected to eduroam.

Manual Connection

      1. Select the Wi-Fi symbol on the top right of your screen.
      2. Select the eduroam network.
      3. Enter your username as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and your password.
      4. You will need to verify the certificate, click continue on this box.
      5. If required, enter your password again to allow the certificate.

You should now be connected to eduroam.

 

Eduroam Windows 7

Installer

  1. Obtain the Windows 7 tool from “I:\Eduroam Tools” whilst logged onto the ColegSirGar network. You can alternatively download the Windows 7 tool from https://cat.eduroam.org/
  2. Run the installer
  3. Go through the installer until it asks for college login details. Enter your username as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and your password.
  4. If you get a security warning, ensure that it is a Coleg Sir Gar – eduroam certificate and click yes.
  5. Go through the remaining steps of the installer.

You should now be connected to eduroam.

Manual Connection

  1. Right click the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right of the screen and select “Open Network and Sharing Center”.
  2. Select “Set up a new connection or network”.
  3. Select “Manually connect to a wireless network”.
  4. Enter the following details and then click next:
    Network name: eduroam
    Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
    Encryption Type: AES
  5. Click “Change connection settings”.
  6. Select the ‘Security’ tab.
  7. Click ‘Settings’
  8. Untick “Validate server certificate”.
  9. Click ‘Configure’.
  10. Untick “Automatically use my windows logon name and password”. Then click ok. Click ok again to return to the security tab.
  11. If the device is a shared device, untick “Remember my credentials for this connection each time I’m logged on”.
  12. Click ‘Advanced Settings’
  13. Tick “Specify authentication mode” and select “User authentication”
  14. The setup is complete, so click ok, ok & then close.

The manual setup of eduroam is complete

  1. Click the wireless icon in the bottom right of the screen.
  2. Select eduroam and click connect.
  3. Enter your college username as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and password.
  4. Click ok.

You are now connected to eduroam.

 

Eduroam Windows 10

Installer

  1. Obtain the Windows 10 tool from “I:\Eduroam Tools” whilst logged onto the ColegSirGar network. You can alternatively download the Windows 10 tool from https://cat.eduroam.org/
  2. Run the installer
  3. Go through the installer until it asks for college login details. Enter your username as This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and your password.
  4. Go through the remaining steps of the installer.

You should now be connected to eduroam.

Manual Connection

  1. Right click the Wi-Fi icon in the bottom right of the screen and select “Open Network and Sharing Center”.
  2. Select “Set up a new connection or network”.
  3. Select “Manually connect to a wireless network”.
  4. Enter the following details and then click next:
    Network name: eduroam
    Security Type: WPA2-Enterprise
    Encryption Type: AES
  5. Click “Change connection settings”.
  6. Select the ‘Security’ tab.
  7. Click ‘Settings’
  8. Untick “Verify the server’s identity by validating the certificate” and click ok.
  9. If the device is a shared device, untick “Remember my credentials for this connection each time I’m logged on”.
  10. Click ‘Advanced Settings’
  11. Tick “Specify authentication mode” and select “User authentication”
  12. The setup is complete, so click ok, ok & then close.

The manual setup of eduroam is complete
