About Us
Coleg Sir Gâr is one of the largest Further Education colleges in Wales with five campuses and 12,000 learners studying on 380 courses. It is far and away the biggest educational institution in Carmarthenshire with 3,000 students attending full time courses which means that the majority of students over the age of 16 in full time education in Carmarthenshire study at the College.
The College also offers a wide range of higher education courses,
which are in the main franchised from the University of Glamorgan. The College was in fact the first college to be awarded Accredited Status by the University of Gamorgan and is one of the largest providers of higher education courses in the Welsh further education sector with 970 higher education learners in 2007 - 08.
We offer an extensive range courses from A Levels, GCSEs, National Diplomas, NVQs and GNVQs up to HNCs, HNDs, degree and postgraduate qualifications in a subjects that include sciences, health, engineering, sport, agriculture, catering, art and design, hairdressing, business and many more.
As part of our dedication to life long learning, we welcome people from all walks of life, whether they have any previous education or not. We also offer access courses into Higher Education for people without formal qualifications who either want a second chance in education or a change in career. Access courses are an alternative method of achieving the entry requirements needed by mature students to to progress to university level courses.
