Students as well as staff consistently achieve recognition for their work by way of local and national awards, personal development and sporting honours to name a few.Jane Regan

Here are a few examples of our recent successes


The college won awards for Lifelong Learning, Vocational Skills Development and Continuous Professional Development at the prestigious annual Fforwm Awards Ceremony

This year (2008), Coleg Sir Gâr celebrated its best ever pass rate for A-level results, celebrating a 99.3% pass rate with 26.6% of students entered achieving all A-grades, topping the Wales national average percentage.

Matthew Rhys Evans,  was crowned Dulux Decorator’s Centre’s ‘Apprentice of the Year’ at a national competition held at Walsall College 2008.

Laura Ashley Support: The fashion and textiles section secured a sponsorship of £150,000 from the Laura Ashley Foundation. Two college graduates in contemporary textiles also received entrepreneurial bursaries

Astrid Etherington was in the UK’s top ten results for A-level Business and Economics

Lecturer Leads the Way: Byron Davies, lecturer in Law was commissioned to produce legal resources for a London University's LI.B distance learning course entitled The English Legal System: Legal methodology and Comparative Legal  Systems. His interests lie in the field of comparative international law and justice, particularly criminal law, on which he has written a number of articles

Overcoming Barriers: A student with a disability as well as a young family, successfully completed the Access to Health and Social Services course and is now studying for a Foundation Degree in Health at Ammanford. The student attended college with the aid of the community centres initiative

A BA honours fashion student's work was chosed to design this year's (2008) Archdruid's robe at the Eisteddfod held in Cardiff.

A final year BA Fashion student has been offered employment with a top London fashion house and designer, Vivienne Westwood following a three month work placement.

Two apprentices took gold and silver in the carpentry section of the UK-wide Skillbuild national competition in Leeds. 

Best Result in UK: A student following the AMSPAR Diploma for Medical Secretaries achieved the highest overall mark in the UK and received an achievement award in Birmingham

Commissioner completes MSc: Former Diversity Officer for the South Wales Police was seconded to the Home Office and has since been appointed as Commissioner for Racial Equality for England and Wales. She completed her MSc in Management at Pibwrlwyd

Apprentices are Welsh winners: Apprentices in engineering took first, second and third place at a Welsh competition for first year modern apprentices. A firstplace was also taken for second year apprentices

Students show off their craft at carpenters competition: Three woodtrades students entered the Carpenters Craft Competition (UK) and became the Welsh region's U20s winner, the Welsh region's runner-up and the Welsh over 20s winner

Breaking down barriers to help others: A wheelchair user following the Professional Diploma in Counselling passed his diploma, despite having to get up at 3am because of his disabilities

The rugby team triumphed at the British Colleges tournament and beat the US American Eagles’ national side           

Junior champion: A National Diploma sports student came first in the Pre-world Junior Championships and became the U18s British Champion in archery

Care Project Awarded: Coleg Sir Gâr's Social Care SME Project scooped the award in the Leading on Learning category at a prestigious social care awards ceremony. The Coleg Sir Gâr team received its Accolade from Deputy Health & Social Services Minister AM Gwenda Thomas.

College Principal Brian Robinson was awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List for services to education and training in Wales.
