
These are very important years for any learner as they can have a potentially significant influence on their future direction in life. At Coleg Sir Gâr we therefore offer a wide range of courses to meet the needs and aspirations of all learners.
14 – 16 Learners still in school can study a range of vocational programmes at college covering areas such as Hairdressing, Construction, Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Agriculture and Motor Vehicle maintenance and repair. The programmes, delivered in collaboration with schools, provide added learning opportunities and the College would welcome any interest in new vocational programmes from schools, parents and pupils.
Post 16 The opportunities available at Coleg Sir Gâr are great.
- Entry Level courses aim to develop personal, social and vocational skills and help students to improve basic skills including numeracy and literacy.
- AS and A Levels provide an academic route to higher education either at the college or at university. There are currently some 400 students studying on almost 40 courses.
This year (2008), Coleg Sir Gâr celebrated its best ever pass rate for A-level results, celebrating a 99.3% pass rate with 26.6% of students entered achieving all A-grades, topping the Wales national average percentage.
- Occupation related and vocational courses such as National Diplomas are the preferred option for many students who wish to gain the skills and qualifications necessary for their chosen career path. The range of vocational opportunities is great and can be seen when you click on the course search.
- The Welsh Baccalaureate is a new and distinctive qualification for Wales designed to broaden students experience and provide them with the skills that employers and universities demand. Learners study the Welsh Bacc alongside another subject e.g. AS or A-levels, a National Diploma, or a First Diploma
