Sociology is the study of human behaviours and interactions and is an area of growing academic interest and influence. It takes an in-depth look at contemporary issues in our society such as social inequalities with regards to race, gender, and social class through studying social institutions such as the Family, Education and Crime. As well as encountering these topics in the academic classroom, college visits to places such as HM Prison Swansea, help students apply the theory to practical situations as well as gain an insight into the multitude of careers on offer in this field.

Programme Features

  • Links with AS Government and Politics
  • Discussions surrounding current affairs
  • Develops transferable skills.
  • Furthers critical thinking skills.

Progression and Employment

With universities offering a broad variety of course such as Sociology and Criminology, Sociology and Law as well as Sociology and Social Policy, undergraduate study in this field has become a popular choice with our students. Skills honed in Sociology also compliment other humanities and social science routes.  Having achieved an A grade in Sociology A Level in 2018, one of our students has progressed to studying Sociology at Cardiff University; hoping to pursue a career in the field of Sociology and Criminology.  A number of past students have successfully completed their Social Sciences degrees and now work as managers in the NHS and in aspects of Social Work for local governments and health boards.
