This full and part-time course gives comprehensive training for those entering practical farming, farm management and agricultural service industries such as Nutritionists, Consultants, Farm Welfare Inspectors and Agricultural Supply Merchants.

Programme Features

Progression and Employment

The college's aim is to provide realistic theoretical and practical training for those whose intentions it is to enter the industry as farmers, enterprise managers and farm managers or to work in the agricultural service industries.

Upon successful completion of the FdSc students may progress to the BSc Agriculture degree programme.

Industry Based Learning 1; Study Skills in Agriculture; Industry Based Learning 2 - Placement Research and Evaluation; Specialist Study; Land-Based Business Management; Agricultural Animal Science; Agricultural Crop, Plant and Soil Science; Dairy Production; Beef Production; Sheep Production; Land as a Resource; Agricultural Ecology; Farming and the Environment; Farm Animal Nutrition; Farm Animal Health; Grass and Forage Production.

Method of Assessment

Student performance is monitored by assignments, continuous assessment, examination, practical work, end of module assessment and completion of a major project.

Entry Requirements

Entry will be granted to applicants who demonstrate the academic ability and potential to benefit from the programme. Students will be expected to have four GCSEs at grade C and above, plus 40 UCAS points.

Applications from mature learners who may not meet these criteria will be considered on their own merit at interview based on their experience and other qualifications they may have gained as they may be industrially relevant.

The college welcomes students with a range of appropriate vocational qualifications and experience to apply in addition to the traditional 'A' level route. These could include the Level 3 Baccalaureate, Apprenticeships, NVQs, AVCEs, National Diplomas and Advanced National Certificates, NPTC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma and Diploma.
