Construction is one of the largest industries in the UK. The industry is continually growing to meet the demands of current and future built environment needs.

Many of these growth areas within the industry are providing exciting employment and career opportunities for construction technicians in a wide range of roles.

This qualification is suitable to anyone who wishes to learn about how buildings, infrastructure, and landscape environments are created and maintained.

Studying this qualification will open up the world of the built environment sector which covers all aspects of the creation of our towns and cities to ensure a sustainable future.

Programme Features

This one year full time qualification involves studying practical and knowledge skills and competencies needed within a technical role in the built environment sector.

The programme content is aimed at providing an essential understanding of construction technology and design, land surveying, building surveying, quantity surveying and project management subjects.

Programme Content

A wide range of Construction and the Built environment subjects are studied including compulsory topics to include the following units –

  • Domestic Construction Technology
  • Industrial and Commercial Construction Technology
  • Health and Safety in the Built Environment
  • Construction Site Supervision
  • Construction Science and Materials
  • Measurement, Tendering and Estimation
  • Site Surveying
  • Sustainability and New Technologies
  • Mathematics for the Built Environment

Progression & Employment

This qualification carries UCAS points, and successful completion of this qualification will provide progression to university, higher apprenticeship or direct entry into work within the industry.

Many of those studying this qualification go on to trainee positions in the following roles – Construction design technicians including architectural technologists, land and building surveying, quantity surveying and project management roles.

Method of Assessment

The qualification is assessed through one synoptic assignment project and one written examination.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSE’s with minimum grade C or above in Maths and English

Additional Costs

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
