Foundation Apprenticeship in Environmental Conservation

Programme Description

A Foundation Apprenticeship is a work based learning programme where the learner is "earning while learning".  It focuses on developing the skills required to enable the learner to gain full time employment in the Environmental Conservation Industry.  The programme is aimed at the learners over the age of 16.  The Apprentice will be employed and receive at least the minimum Apprentice wage.  The Apprentice will attend college on a day release basis and should achieve the Level 2 Apprenticeship Framework within the agreed timescale.  The learner will also complete Essential Skills qualifications in both communication and Application of Number.

Programme Features

  • All learners will be supported by a Training Adviser/Assessor who will monitor progress towards achieving targets on a regular basis (every 56 to 61 days)
  • The Training Adviser/Assessor will liaise closely with the employer to ensure that qualifications are achieved within the timescale
  • The Training Adviser/Assessor will assess the Apprentice in the workplace as and when required (every 56 to 61 days)
  • There will be opportunities to achieve additional certificate of competency in chainsaw maintenance and operation

Progression & Employment

Learners who have successfully completed this Foundation Apprenticeship at the required standard, can progress onto an Apprenticeship at Level 3

Programme Content

Learners following this Foundation Apprenticeship will have to achieve a framework of qualifications which will include: -

  • Level 2 City & Guilds Diploma in Work Based Environmental Conservation
  • Level 2 Lantra Certificate in Landbased Activities

Essential Skills must be achieved in order for a successful completion these are: -

  • Essential Skills Wales Application or Number Level 1
  • Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 1
  • (In some circumstances previously achieved proxy qualifications may be used)

Programme Assessment

Coursework, assignments, work based observations and work based evidence

Programme Entry Requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for the Environmental Conservation Foundation Apprenticeship; however, there are qualifications or experience that will help learners understand the sector prior to starting, for example: -

  • Level 1 Award in Practical Environmental and Conservation Skills
  • Level 1 Diploma in Work-based Environmental Conservation
  • Voluntary experience within the environmental conservation sector
  • Have previously worked in or are currently working within the sector
  • GCSE's
