Nick Brown enrolled on a degree course whilst running his own business and graduated with a BSc honours in construction management and technology.
He is sole trader and owner of Brown Partnership, a company which provides surveying and architectural services throughout the county as well as Powys and Pembrokeshire.
Nick, who graduated with a first class honours degree, was already equipped with a HND in building studies but to compete in the industry, upskill his qualifications and to gain chartered status, he undertook the degree at the college’s Ammanford campus.
“Lectures were well structured and presented professionally and the level of support from all of the staff was very good,” said Nick. “The size of the classes ensured excellent communication and on a personal level when required. Lecturers provided up to date topics for study and in-depth discussions, with relevant personal industry experience to further reinforce the teaching, yet being open to sharing the views and experiences of the students.”
With a business to run on top of academic study, time management could sometimes be challenging but Nick is pleased with the investment he made and is happy with his result. He even won the college’s annual BSc Honours Student of the Year award.
Nick Brown added: “I would certainly recommend Coleg Sir Gâr for studying at university level as it is very accessible, the lecturers have considerable industry experience and are motivated to ensure that they provide an excellent understanding of current and future construction related issues.
