Oliver Morgan-Thomas studied drama at Coleg Sir Gâr when he finished his studies at Glan Y Mor Comprehensive.
He started as a young 16 year old and said that at the time, he didn’t know what a monologue was let alone who Stanislavsky or Brecht were, but that was about to change and Oliver is now enjoying a successful career in acting, based in London.
Oliver Morgan-Thomas said: “I started by taking up an AS level in drama and this is when I met my college lecturer Bryony Evett-Hackfort.
“If it wasn’t for Bryony I would not be where I am today. Her passion and enthusiasm for teaching drama sparked something inside of me and gave me the drive to start down the road of wanting to be a professional actor. She might have even had the idea before I did.
“Bryony asked me to audition for the National Youth Theatre of Wales and I blindly followed. I got in a few months later and it gave me the first taste of the professional acting industry.”
Returning from the National Youth Theatre of Wales, Oliver joined the performing arts course at Coleg Sir Gâr and set his next goal which was to get into drama school. “I picked up new skills over the next two years ranging from stage to screen, working with Michael Sheen on Passion in Port Talbot, gaining a place at the National Youth Theatre of Wales amongst other things,” said Oliver. “I was then fortunate to gain a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.”
Oliver graduated from RWCMD on what he says has been the best and most challenging three years of his life.
He found an agent, moved to London and found work in the industry.
His work has included a tour around Wales with a theatre company called Theatr Pena. He then worked at The Castle at Aberystwyth Arts Centre on a play called Land of my Fathers, which was based on the role of security contractors in the Middle East after the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq.
He has worked on two films, one independent short film about Post Roman Britain and the different tribes and kingdoms at war, then a feature film called Late December.
Currently he is working on setting up a theatre company with friends to develop their acting work.
