The Music Academy offers our learners excellent extra-curricular activities. Both ‘Jazz’ and ‘Band’ academies take place each Wednesday afternoon. The diversity of our academies allows students to achieve their ambitions in whichever discipline they choose to follow.
The Music Academy provides a varied enrichment programme that supports ongoing musical development. Students have the chance to work within the college live recording studios as well as using state of the art software and technology. Students also have the opportunity to perform at Regional and National events tutored by industry professionals.
Every year we have talks and workshops as part of the Music Academy programme delivered by internationally renowned musicians as well as alumni of Coleg Sir Gâr.
The Dance Academy offers Coleg Sir Gar students the chance to become involved in a range of dance enrichment opportunities alongside their studies. The Dance Academy is a diverse Dance Company for talented college students who have passion, creativity and imagination for Dance.
On a weekly basis dancers access technique classes, choreographic sessions and performance rehearsals. Students have the opportunity to participate in choreographic processes that are geared towards the Performing Arts Festival and BLAST Dance Evening that takes place every academic year with performances in The Forge Theatre. Performance work is often invited to perform at college and local events.
Students enter via auditions at the start of each new performance opportunity, and casting is appropriate to the style of the piece. As part of the Dance Academy programme, students take part in various workshops with industry professionals such as Gwyn Emberton Dance, National Dance Company Wales and a variety of freelance dance artists/companies. Students also have the opportunity to collaborate with multi-media technology as well as access to professional-standard rehearsal rooms, including the sprung-floor dance studio, mirrored wall, ballet barres, drama hall, Forge Fitness Suite and Forge Theatre.
