This is a work based learning programme at level 3 where the learner is 'earning while learning'. The programme is aimed at learners over the age of 16. The apprentice will be employed and receive at least the minimum apprenticeship wage. The apprentice will attend college on a day release basis and should achieve the level three Apprenticeship Framework within the agreed timescale.
The apprenticeship programme is available in light and heavy vehicle routes.
This apprenticeship programme is suitable for aspiring technicians. Apprentices learn to service vehicles, solve complex faults, use of diagnostic equipment etc.
Learners following this Foundation Apprenticeship will have to achieve a framework of qualifications which will include:
- Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Competence
- Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles
- Essential Skills Wales Application of Number Level 2
- Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 2
- Essential Skills Wales Digital Literacy Level 2
- Employee Rights and Responsibilities
Learners who have successfully completed this Apprenticeship can progress onto an MOT and other specific training courses if appropriate.
Coursework, online examinations, work based observations and work based evidence.
This framework in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair would suit someone who is interested in the technical and diagnostic aspects of motor vehicles, who likes practical work, is good with their hands, enjoys face to face contact with customers and enjoys identifying and fixing problems.
Employers are looking to attract applicants who have a keen interest in working in the automotive retail industry in vehicle maintenance and repair jobs and who have basic literacy and numeracy skills on which this apprenticeship will build.
These programmes are part financed by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.
Candidates are expected to have completed the level 2, Foundation Apprenticeship programme.
