Programme Features

A central element of the course is problem solving by working through fun tasks, taking risks and developing new ideas. Stimulating and demanding projects will challenge you to think about how and why you make art work.

Studio and library discussions with your tutors and peers will give you a chance to look at the work of other artists and designers, which in turn will give you the confidence to talk about your own work.

Programme Content

The level two Diploma Art and Design course consists of eight units which cover a variety of art, design and craft subjects, including 2D, 3D and time-based work, research, contextual awareness, creative development skills and progression skills.

This course also includes Essential Skills plus a Welsh language unit and employability Skills.

Progression & Employment

You will have plenty of support in finding new ways to research and investigate and all your experiences on the course will help you discover your creative strengths.

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to higher-level courses such as the level three Art & Design programme and the course will provide you with the skills which can lead to training in a wide variety of occupations.

Method of Assessment

All units are internally assessed and internally verified with the exception of the final major project, which is externally moderated by UAL.

All unit assessment is of the student’s portfolio work, in addition to this the final major project unit also culminates in an assessed exhibition.

Entry Requirements

All applicants will need to bring a portfolio of art, craft, and design work to their interview. Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview.
