This BA (Hons) Multidisciplinary in Art and Design degree programme enables students to develop their own bespoke degree, selecting a combination of modules chosen from two of our specialist degrees targeting their own specific talents and interests. For example, Sculpture and Digital 3D Design; Fashion and Textiles; Fine Art and Photography.

Understandably it can be difficult for students to choose a degree if they have diverse artistic strengths, interests and abilities, and selecting one specialist degree can mean that they forfeit one interest in the pursuit of another. The idea therefore that they may combine their talents under the umbrella of a Multidisciplinary degree can be very appealing.

However, it is not a degree to be undertaken without a great deal of thought. The Multidisciplinary student must be good at time management and be well organised. They should be willing to socialise and interact with a variety of student groups as their personal timetable will cross into different specialist programmes. This interaction between two distinct disciplines develops opportunities for innovation, enables students to work across both art and design contexts and leads to diverse, exciting and multifaceted creative practice.

Programme Features

Carmarthen School of Art is known for its ‘family’ atmosphere, we offer an open door policy where students are encouraged to discuss proposed modules with experienced tutors before formalising their programme of study. Class sizes are small and tutor contact is second to none. You will have and individual workspace and access to specific studios and workshops linked to the departments you intend to study across. Please refer to Programme Descriptor and Features specific to your two chosen specialist degree departments for further information.

The course supports the development of your studio practice with an emphasis on craft and skill. Lectures and contextual dialogue enables you to position yourself and your practice in terms of art history and contemporary critical thought, so that you will be equipped with the tools to map and research your own interests. Frequent opportunities for public exhibitions, events, competitions and live projects (depending on modules selected) prepare you professionally for a wide range of potential careers.

All these skills are transferable across a range of professional contexts.  Students attend workshops during their first year where they learn skills by means of experimentation in a relaxed and inclusive teaching environment.
