An apprenticeship is a work based learning programme at level three where the learner is earning while learning.
The programme is aimed at learners over the age of 18 currently working in the health and social care sector in roles such as a social care worker, healthcare support worker or healthcare assistant.
The programme is ideally suited to employees who have some element of responsibility within their job role. Apprentices are employed and receive at least the minimum apprenticeship wage.
They attend college on a regular basis and should achieve a level three apprenticeship framework within the agreed timescale.
All learners will be supported by a training adviser/assessor who will monitor progress towards achieving targets on a regular basis.
They will liaise closely with the employer to ensure that qualifications are achieved within the timescale and assess the apprentice in the workplace as and when required.
Learners following this apprenticeship will have to achieve a framework of qualifications which will include:
- Level 2 Health and Social Care Core
- Level 3 Health and Social Care Practice - with Adults or Children and Young People
- Essential Skills Wales Application of Number Level 2
- Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 2
(In some circumstances previously achieved proxy qualifications may be used)
Learners who have successfully completed this Apprenticeship can progress onto a Higher Apprenticeship at Level 4 if available.
Apprentices will attend taught sessions either online or in the classroom, to cover the level two core content.
The core is assessed through case studies and an on line exam.
The practice is assessed through coursework, assignments, work based observations and work based evidence.
There are no formal entry requirements however applicants must be in paid employment in the health and social care sector with a contract of at least 16 hours a week.
