An apprenticeship is a work based learning programme at level three where the learner is earning while learning. The programme is ideally suited to employees who have some element of responsibility within their job role. The apprentice will be employed and receive at least the minimum apprenticeship wage.
The apprentice will have the option to attend college on a day release basis as pre agreed with the training adviser and should achieve the level three apprenticeship framework within the agreed timescale.
- All learners will be supported by a Training Adviser/Assessor who will monitor progress towards achieving targets on a regular basis (every 56 to 61 days)
- The Training Adviser/Assessor will liaise closely with the employer to ensure that qualifications are achieved within the timescale
- The Training Adviser/Assessor will assess the Apprentice in the workplace as and when required (every 56 to 61 days)
The learner must achieve all of the core units as well as additional units. The choice of additional units will be individual to each learner based on what they do in work.
Learners completing the apprenticeship must achieve Unit 317 - establish, monitor and maintain site hygiene and biosecurity.
Essential Skills must be achieved in order for a successful completion, these are:
- Essential Skills Wales Application of Number (Level 2)
- Essential Skills Wales Communication (Level 2)
- In some circumstances previously achieved proxy qualifications may be used
The apprenticeship can lead on to foundation degree or a higher level apprenticeship programme.
Coursework, assignments, work based observations and work based evidence.
The agriculture industry need the entry requirements for the apprenticeship to be flexible, so therefore training advisers will undertake an initial interview and learners will complete a basic skills screener in order to ensure they are suited on the correct level whether one, two, three or four. There are eligibility criteria requirements that all potential Apprentices have to fulfill. This is assessed at the interview.
These programmes are part financed by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.
