This qualification is ideally suited for those wishing to progress or move into a Medical Administration environment.  The qualification will prepare the learner to work in the field of medical administration learning skills in medical terminology

Programme Content

The course takes a structural approach to medical terminology, focusing on how medical terms are built from a combination of roots, prefixes and suffixes, and the recognition of these terms from given definitions.  It covers:

  • Terminology
  • Abbreviations relating to body systems
  • Medical specialities
  • Pharmacology

Progression & Employment

Candidates achieving this qualification can progress:

  • to employment
  • to the Level 3 Certificate in Medical Terminology
  • to the Level 2/3 Diploma in Medical Administration

Method of Assessment

Assessment is via an external examination.  Examinations are in February, June and November and the 10 week course is delivered around these dates.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, although candidates are likely to have some experience in a medical environment or wish to move into this area.
