Silver medal for Wales
The college’s business team brought home a silver medal from a Skills Competition Wales event where they pitched their business ideas live on stage.
The silver medal is one of 25 achieved by the college at the Wales-wide event, proving that our medal winners are amongst the best vocational learners in Wales.
The competitions were organised by the Welsh Government’s Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales project that supports competitors across Wales to develop their vocational skills to world class standards.

Student wins DVLA’s innovation competition
A Coleg Sir Gâr business student has won the DVLA Innovation challenge run in partnership with Simply Do and Carmarthenshire County Council.
Davey Hampton, who studies a business extended diploma provided solutions for the DVLA to recruit more males in administration roles.
Possible solutions were put forward by Davey who suggested holding recruitment drives at events where more men were likely to attend and improve application numbers from male job seekers.
He also conducted research into ONS statistics and how men and women differ in their leisure pursuits, allowing a more targeted approach to recruitment.
Davey Hampton said: "I'm very excited to have won the DVLA's Competition and I'm really looking forward to collaborating with them to make my idea a reality."
The DVLA Innovation Challenge is part of the CELTIC Project and included Gower College, Coleg Sir Gâr, NPTC, Pembrokeshire College, UWTSD and Swansea University.

Top awards in enterprise competition
Business and enterprise students won a competition for their entrepreneurial skills picking up two top awards.
Challenging students from Coleg Sir Gâr, Coleg Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire College, the competition focused on five key sectors.
Coleg Sir Gâr students created a business called the Opal Project which sells personalised hemp bracelets infused with lavender and crystals to help calm those with mental health issues, this company won the care category award.
Business student Davey Hampton won the top prize for his online service, Mobility, which provides accessibility information of businesses in Carmarthenshire.
The Regional Enterprise Competition was organised by Big Ideas Wales and Business in Focus.

I think studying at Coleg Sir Gâr was a crucial step towards getting me into the university I wanted to go to.
The tutors’ perseverance is what I am most appreciative, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have the distinctions I needed to get into university and continue on the path I have set for myself.
