Health & Social Care (Children And Young People) Level 3

Programme Description


The Level 3 Diploma Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) for Wales and Northern Ireland (QCF) has been designed for learners who are employed in a care setting.

This will provide evidence of the learner's competence in roles and responsibilities relating to the care of children and young people.

Programme Content


Mandatory units are:

Communication, Personal Development, Equality and Inclusion, Duty of Care, Children's and Young People's Development, Safeguarding Children's and Young People's Wellbeing, Health and Safety, Positive Relationships and Positive Outcomes, Working Together for the Benefit of  Children and Young People, Assessment and Planning, Wellbeing and Resilience, Sensory Loss, Professional Practice.

Option Units will be selected as relevant to the learner's work setting.

Progression & Employment


This course is provided as a statutory requirement for progression within the care sector for all staff.


Method of Assessment


The overall grade for the qualification is a pass. To pass any unit the learner must achieve all the specified learning outcomes and satisfy all the assessment criteria by providing sufficient and valid evidence for each criteria in a portfolio.

The award will be assessed by a college based assessor using a variety of different methods including direct observations in the workplace, written reflective accounts, professional discussion, questions and answers, expert witness testimony and evidence of recognition of prior learning.

Entry Requirements


No formal qualifications required but learners will need to be working at level 3 in a health and social care setting and have the support from their employer to complete the award.

Work roles may include Senior Care Assistant / Senior Support Workers in Residential Care / Day Care / Respite Care / Foster Care settings.
