Programme Description

Progress into an exciting career in the travel and tourism industry.This course provides a gateway into one of the fastest growing industries both locally and nationally. Some students use this course as a stepping-stone to a Level 3 programme in Travel and Tourism; others may choose alternative further study pathways, an apprenticeship or full-time employment.

The course will provide opportunities to develop a whole range of personal skills and techniques and attributes, essential for successful performance in the tourism industry and working life.

Programme Features

A central element of the course is the close partnership with the local tourism industry. You will gain a realistic view of the demands of working in the travel and tourism industry in a stimulating and exciting environment. You will have the opportunity to explore the industry through trips to visitor attractions at home and abroad. You will also be able to put theory into practice supporting events in partnership with the local tourism industry.

Programme Content

On a Level 2 Extended Certificate in Travel and Tourism course, you will study a variety of units. Topics include the travel and tourism sector, the customer experience, UK and international tourist destinations, UK visitor attractions, organising trips and visits, holiday reps, factors affecting worldwide travel and tourism and employment opportunities in the industry. You will also further develop your literacy and numeracy through GCSE English or Maths or through Essential Skills Qualifications in Communication or Application of Number.

Method of Assessment

The majority of units are assessed internally using centre devised assessments. These can include observation in work related situations, presentations, projects, or extended writing. Two units are assessed through a paper-based examination. Each exam lasts 60 minutes.

Entry Requirements

You will need a minimum of 3 GCSE grades A*-C to study this course. One of these must be English, first language Welsh or Maths.
