Programme Description

This course provides access to a career in one of the fastest growing industries both locally and nationally.  Traditionally the L3 90 credit diploma forms the first year of a two year programme. Upon successful completion of this course, the majority of learners progress onto a Level 3 Extended Diploma 3 in Travel and Tourism. Some learners progress directly into Higher Education and others to employment. The course will provide opportunities to develop a whole range of personal skills, techniques and attributes, essential for successful performance in the tourism industry and working life.

Programme Features

  • A central element of the course is the close partnership with the local tourism industry. You will gain a realistic view of the demands of working in the travel and tourism industry in a stimulating and exciting environment. You will have the opportunity to explore the industry through trips to visitor attractions at home and abroad. You will also be able to put theory into practice supporting events in partnership with the local tourism industry.

Programme Content

On a Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism you will study a variety of units. Topics include investigating the travel and tourism sector, customer service, UK and European tourist destinations, tourism in rural areas and responsible tourism, events, conferences and exhibitions, hospitality operations, the business of travel and tourism and preparing for employment in the industry.  You will also develop your literacy and numeracy through GCSE English or Maths or through Essential Skills Qualifications in Communication or Application of Number.

Method of Assessment

All units are assessed internally using centre devised assessments. These can include observation in work related situations, presentations, projects, or extended writing.

Entry Requirements

You will need a minimum of five GCSE grades A*-C to study this course. One of these must be English, first language Welsh or Maths.
