Programme Description

Who would this course be suitable for?

The course could be relevant to individuals either running their own businesses or individuals working within roles in businesses or organisations which involve the responsibility of managing or developing the social media or online marketing of a business. 

Job roles relevant for participants of this course are listed below although this course is suitable not only for individuals who are currently employed within the social media support sector but also ideal for individuals who have future career aspirations to work within this growing and exciting employment sector.

Social Media Assistant - Manage and monitor online communities including managing content to use the internet to promote and market a product or service.

Social Media Consultant - Working with business to promote and increase their online presence through social media.

Social Media Analyst – Conducting and delivering social media research for businesses and organisations. 

Digital Account Assistant – To develop a social media strategy for a business or organisation including copy writing and media placement and timescales and budgets.

Digital Marketing Assistant – To monitor social media marketing tactics and maintain the content of blogs also to research and build social media plans.

Digital Communications Officer – Manage the implementation and communication of social media plans and maintaining and developing marketing databases and content management.

Community Engagement Officer – To find relevant and new content for social media platforms and identify key bloggers and influencers and identify and analyse online patterns and trends.

You will attend college the classroom based taught element of the course every Monday evening within term times, this classroom based learning element of the course is at our Graig Campus.

Programme Features

All learners will be supported by a Training Adviser/Assessor who will monitor progress towards achieving targets on a regular basis.

The Training Adviser/Assessor will liaise closely with the employer to ensure that qualifications are achieved within timescales.The Training Adviser/Assessor will assess the Apprentice in the workplace or a regular basis.

Programme Content

Learners following this level 3 Apprenticeship on successful completion with gain a Level 3 Diploma in Social Media for Business.

This qualification consist of the following units and below is a brief overview and the learning objectives for each unit you will study.

Unit 301 - Principles of Social Media – To learn the fundamentals of social media marketing for a business including understanding how social media fits into the objectives and marketing of your business or organisation. How to select the correct social media tools for your type of business, and how to measure & monitor the success of using these different social media tools like Facebook and Twitter.   

Unit 302 - Principles of Keyword Optimisation - To learn how to plan and implement keyword optimisation for your business website and your business social media apps like Facebook and Twitter for your business to achieve maximum optimisation to attract/engage with your customers/clients. 

Unit 303 - Social Networking for business – To learn how to evaluate external social networking tools like LinkedIn, Facebook, & understand how to classify the audience of the potential customers of your business/organisation & how to use social media management tools.

Unit 304 - Using collaborative tools – To learn how to plan and manage and integrate multiple IT tools and devices to safely work collaboratively with staff in your business/organisation and with other businesses/organisations.

Unit 307 – Principles of Mobile Social Media for a Business – To learn to understand how mobile social media is used by organisations & business, what factors affect how you use mobile social media, learn how to create and distribute social media content, understand the use of location aware apps used by business and consumers.

Unit 308 – Principles of social media advertising and promotion – To learn how to plan and implement the use of digital vouchers for social media marketing purposes for your business or organisation.

Other Qualifications taught as part of the level 3 social media apprenticeship course are:

Application of Number Level 2 - You are exempt from needing to undertake this qualification as part of the course if you have a Maths GCSE grade C or above.

Communication Level 2 - You are exempt from needing to undertake this qualification as part of the course if you have a English Language or Welsh First language GCSE grade C or above.

Digital Literacy Level 2 – Everyone has to complete this qualification as part of the level 3 social media apprenticeship. 

Progression & Employment

Learners who have successfully completed this apprenticeship can progress onto our Level 4 Digital Marketing Higher Apprenticeship which takes 2 years to complete, the classroom based element of the level 4 course is currently every Thursday evening at our Graig Campus.

Method of Assessment

The method of assessment will consist of the following methods although there will be an emphasis of holistic assessment as much as is possible:

  • Written assignments
  • Work based observations
  • Professional discussions
  • Assessor and employer witness statements

Entry Requirements

Many employers will require 5 GCSEs (A*-C) or an equivalent qualification when applying for this programme. These programmes are part financed by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government
