A BTEC First in Information and Creative Technology is a practical, vocational course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations. The course is made up of a number of units, you study core and specialist units. The specialist units enable you to study a particular area in more depth. The course is being offered on a full-time basis.
BTEC Level 2 First in IT and Creative Technology is equivalent to 4 GCSEs at grades A* - E Provides a good progression route to more advanced qualifications eg. BTEC Level 3 Nationals Motivates learners via applied learning and assessment Assessed internally through coursework Provides education and training for employees working in ICT related occupations
With further training or study, students can enter careers such as: End user support technician and Trainee IT support officer / technician.
The course is also a good grounding to progress onto advanced courses such as the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in IT or OCR Technicals Level 3.
The course consists of the following 6 units:
Unit 1 The Online World Unit 2 Technology Systems Unit 3 A Digital Portfolio Unit 4 Creating a Digital Animation Unit 6 Creating Digital Graphics Unit 9 Spreadsheet Development Unit 10 Database Development Unit 13 Website Development Unit 14 Installing and Maintaining Computer Hardware
Students also study Essential Skills.
Unit 1 and Unit 2 are electronically externally examined. All other units are assessed by coursework and an overall grade is awarded.
You will normally need to have at least one of the following: A good standard of literacy and numeracy supported by a general education equivalent to 4 GCSE grades A - E with a minimum of 2 Cs including Maths or English; Other related level 1 or 2 qualifications.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £45 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
