Apprenticeship - Glass Fenestration

Programme Description


The Foundation Glass Fenestration Apprenticeship addresses a wide range of skills needed for the installation of windows, doors and glass supporting structures.

This includes how to: remove old windows, doors and conservatories with hand and power tools; measure up the space(s) for the new windows or doors; fix the units in place, making sure they are level and secure; seal the fittings to make them weather tight and clean away leftover materials and making good any damage to indoor timber or plasterwork.

Programme Features


Learners will complete a Level 2 Certificate in Glass Related Operations, Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Fenestration Installation along with Employment Rights and Responsibilities and Essential Skills Wales Application of number and communication.

Learners with GCSE grade G in Maths and English (or equivalent) are exempt from undertaking Essential Skills units.


Programme Content


A range of mandatory and optional units will be assessed in the workplace along with end of unit knowledge questions which will be both written and answered on a digital platform.

Progression & Employment


Those wanting to gain additional expertise in their trade area, and seeking to gain competence in supervisory and managerial activities should progress to Level 3.


Method of Assessment


Units are assessed by observation of practical tasks in the workplace and knowledge-based questioning which may be written or on digital platforms.

Entry Requirements


Learners who do not have a G grade or above in Maths and English will be expected to sit the level 1 Essential Skills in Application of Number and Communication in order to pass the apprenticeship.

All apprentices must also complete regular skills updates/targets in Application of Number, Communication, Digital Literacy and Welsh regardless of level on entry.
