This Level 2 diploma develops brick, block and thin joint masonry skills along with the interpretation of setting out drawings. It allows students to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in bricklaying. You will complete a variety of bricklaying related tasks that are undertaken in industry and safely use various hand and power tools. Principals of building construction, information and communication unit will also provide you with an introduction to construction technology.
This course is designed to develop the skills and knowledge of students enabling them to work in the industry in their chosen craft.
It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions and the tests are based on the learner showing what they can do as an individual.
The course is delivered by highly qualified and experienced staff using modern facilities.
As part of the programme learners will also complete Essential Skills.
Opportunities will also be provided for GCSEs in Welsh, English and Mathematics and for welsh language development.
Students will be able to progress onto an apprenticeship programme subject interview and employment of which will provide further development and understanding of the construction industry.
Each unit comprises of two parts that cover subject knowledge and practical skills:
Health and Safety and welfare in construction
Principles of building construction, information and communication
Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding
Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures
This course also includes Essential Skills Qualifications delivery.
A variety of assessment methods are used which include written knowledge questions, online and practical skills tests.
Formal interview and ideally students will have completed a L1 diploma in Bricklaying and have good levels of literacy and numeracy. Consideration will also be given to mature students subject to formal interview. Applicants should have an interest in the chosen craft and evidence of practical ability would be an advantage.
