This pathway provides a nationally agreed Trowel Occupations foundation apprenticeship framework for a work based learning route into employment within the construction industry, using qualifications that combine both practical skills and knowledge.
Learners completing a Trowel Occupations foundation apprenticeship will undertake work in areas such as:
Setting out and erecting masonry brick and block structures and installing drainage systems.
As an apprentice you will be allocated a training advisor who will oversee and support you through your journey on this framework, working closely both with your employer and tutors at college.
You will be expected to attend college one day/week for underpinning knowledge, and assessment will also take place in college or workplace on a regular basis. This course is both theory and practical based.
The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations includes:
Installing drainage in the workplace.
Progression onto apprenticeship programmes that will provide further development and understanding of trades within the construction industry.
This pathway will develop your skills for employment as a Bricklayer at foundation level.
Upon successful completion of this programme, Apprentices will achieve the following -
Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations
Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying
Essential Skills Qualification in Communication and Application of Number at level 1
Employer Rights and Responsibilities
A variety of assessment methods are used which include written knowledge questions, online and practical skills tests.
Units are assessed by an NVQ portfolio and/or practically in the work place through the observation of working practices. Written and on line tests for the theory knowledge of NVQ and diploma qualifications will also be undertaken within the college.
Although there are no formal entry requirements, students will need to have a good level of numeracy and literacy skills. Applicants should have an interest in the chosen craft and evidence of practical ability would be an advantage. In addition apprentices;
Undertake a diagnostic test on literacy and numeracy skills.
Students will be required to source and purchase their own Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which comprises of Safety Boots, Safety Glasses, Hard Hat and Hi- Vis.
