The level 1 diploma is an introduction to general bricklaying skills. It allows you to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression in bricklaying. You will learn the basics of bricklaying, from preparing and mixing materials to setting out components.
The fully equipped workshops provide excellent facilities to construct a variety of real life simulated projects relevant to the construction industry with a strong focus on learning through doing. You will have the opportunity to enter Skills competitions and visit exhibitions and businesses relevant to the construction industry.
Students who successfully complete this course have the opportunity to progress on to full time employment, an apprenticeship scheme to complete the NVQ and Diploma in Brickwork at Level 2 or on to further full time study on the Level 2 Construction Maintenance course.
A variety of assessment methods are used which include written knowledge questions, online and practical skills tests.
Although there are no formal entry requirements, you will need to have a good level of numeracy and literacy skills. Applicants should have an interest in the chosen craft and evidence of practical ability would be an advantage.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £45 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
