Performing Arts Level 2

Programme Description


This could be your first step to television, film or theatre work in either performance or technical theatre.

This course will provide you with the valuable experience and necessary skills for Level 3 Performing Arts and it is a great starting point in developing the skills and knowledge you will need to begin a career in the Performing Arts.

You are given opportunities to explore and grow your creativity exploration that allows you to build up a portfolio of experience of various disciplines such as acting, dance and production arts as well as learn about the performing arts industry and take part in some exciting opportunities and project.

Programme Features

This course focuses on providing you with the skills and knowledge needed to progress to L3 Performing arts, Production arts or further education and ultimately employment.

Our L2 Course will teach you the technical skills to make your work stand out and give you the knowledge and inspiration to explore and develop your own performance ideas.

We have excellent industry links and enrichment opportunities that allow you to to be working with industry professionals such as Frantic Assembly and Gwen Emberton Dance as well as collaborating with other areas of the creative industries.

We have superb facilities, which include a new fully equipped performance theatre and a spacious dance studio as well as various rehearsal spaces. 

Progression & Employment

Although a competitive sector in performance, there are an incredible amount of employability opportunities within the performing arts and technical theatre sector.

This course will provide you with the transferable skills that could lead you training in a wide variety of occupations such as Performer, teacher, arts administrator, choreographer, broadcast journalist, costume designer, lighting technician, makeup artist, arts therapist, stage manager and director.

You are taught by a range of tutors with many year’s experience from across areas of the industry who will guide you and support your career options.This is an extremely exciting time for the Creative industries within Wales leading to job opportunities on your door step with the Yr Egin in Carmarthen and the BBC studios, Cardiff.

Successful completion of the course will enable you to progress to higher-level courses, apprenticeships or employment.

Programme Content

The Level 2 Diploma in Performing arts and Production Arts consists of 10 units over one year, which cover for example

  • Introduction to Performance
  • Staging a Performance
  • Performance skills and Practice.

Alongside your Performing Arts qualification, you will be given the opportunity to improve your grades by either taking GCSE resits or Essential skills in both literacy and numeracy, which will enable you to progress on to Level 3 plus a Welsh language unit and Employability Skills.

Programme Assessment

Units are assessed internally both theoretically and practically. 

You will also create a final major project.

Programme Entry Requirements

All applicants will need to attend a workshop and interview and demonstrate ability level.

Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview.

An applicant for the Level 2 will need to have a minimum of 4 GCSEs grades A* - C- Either being Maths or English

English and Maths are an integral part of the course. Students who do not yet have the necessary grades at C or above will have additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills depending on prior GCSE grades.

Additional Costs

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £45 prior to enrolment.

You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
