The artisan bread baking course could be an excellent starting point for aspiring bakers, dedicated home cooks and food enthusiasts to come along and celebrate the passion required for baking the ultimate loaf and other yeast-based products.

The course will offer expert knowledge and advice  from a dedicated  and passionate chef, professional techniques and a chef’s secret or two along the way. The course will celebrate the very best recipes, modern and classical bakery techniques used in professional kitchens and bakeries today.

At the end of the cookery course you will achieve an Agored Cymru Bakery Unit certificate.

Programme Features

This is an evening cookery course for anyone aged 16+.
All ingredients, a branded chef’s apron and use of knives are provided. Various cooking methods and kitchen skills will be introduced into each session.

You will cook at least 2 types of bread weekly.

Programme content

Each session will focus on key aspects of bakery.  Starting with the basics, we aim to explore the varieties of sweet and savoury breads available globally. 

Particular focus and consideration will be given to local, seasonal produce.

Progression and employment

The artisan bread course could be the starting point and will provide an excellent foundation for inspiring chefs and bakers of the future, with the next step to enrol at the college on a full or part time catering course.

The course will open the door to future opportunities at the college and with other courses being offered such as Taste of Wales cookery, cake decoration, patisserie and a chocolatier course. 

Lecturers can provide specialist advice to learners regarding vocational and work based qualifications and progression options to industry.

Method of assessment

Practical based assessment with recipe support.


Students will need to provide evidence of baking a range of breads for their portfolio.


Agored Cymru Certificate in bread baking on completion.

Entry requirements

Age limits 16+ years of age.
No academic requirements.
Health and safety rules to apply which are introduced in the first session.

Additional costs

Costs have been calculated for the course, which included some product ingredients and a branded apron for each student.
