This award is intended for students wishing to study for an Honours degree on a part-time basis. The course runs over a three year period. It requires students to attend for one day per week throughout the academic year. The course is particularly suitable for mature students returning to education after a break or those students having recently gained a HNC award looking for further progression.
Engineers requiring formal qualifications commensurate with their current position or looking for career progression will find this course of particular value. Opportunities for Incorporated Engineer status or entry to higher qualifications leading to Chartered Engineer status.
Example course structure:
Year 1: Mechanical Science, Instrumentation and Control, Engineering Design, Engineering Mathematics, Automation Technology.
Year 2: Thermofluids, Advanced Automation Technology, Engineering Design, Engineering Management.
Year 3: Project, Research Methods, CAD and Analysis, Applied Mechanics, Thermodynamics.
The assessment for this course will include a combination of assignments and examinations.
HNC Mechanical Engineering or HNC Manufacturing Engineering. Mature candidates possessing the equivalent of a relevant HNC and associated industrial experience will also be considered.
All engineering full-time courses which include mechanical, electrical/electronic/fabrication and welding and motor vehicle, are fully funded.
Additional learner costs are limited to registration fees (determined annually by the college) and a contribution of £30 towards the cost of personal protective equipment.
The learner will also be required to provide their own stationary and basic classroom equipment appropriate to their course (eg pens and a calculator).
