Skills for Independence and Work Level 3

Programme Description



The course aims to develop personal, social and vocational skills and helps students to improve essential skills including Numeracy, Literacy and ICT. Students sample a variety of job-related skills. To ensure that the needs of each student are met, learning is planned to meet individual requirements. Students may participate in educational visits and leisure activities with the aim of developing their social skills and confidence.

The course may be delivered between Graig and Ammanford Campuses. The course is taught at Entry 3 Level, with a clear progression route. The vocational courses can help to prepare students for studying within the mainstream vocational courses.  


Programme Features



Learners will be able to access a range of vocational taster opportunities with option to gain additional qualifications. They will receive classroom support and specialist careers guidance.

In addition to students completing their E3 pathways, Workskills offers students Work-experience opportunities through the academic year.  Students ae expected to explore interests, hobbies and match-up to possible employment opportunities.


Progression & Employment



Learners can progress onto Entry 3 Personal & Social Development Course, Mainstream college courses or employment.


Programme Content



Learners will follow the College Tutorial programme along with Numeracy and Literacy sessions. The vocational modules include:

  • Landbased (Small Animal Care & Horticulture)
  • Art and Design 
  • Health and Social Care
  • Sport and Active Leisure
  • Hospitality and Catering

Practical Skills (carpentry)


Programme Assessment



Portfolio style evidence is collected and learning outcomes are assessed via practical activities and assignment-based work.


Programme Entry Requirements



There are no formal entry requirements to our courses. You will be invited to come to an informal interview, where we assess learning needs and vocational interest and match you to the most appropriate course.
