The Fresh Start Entry 3 course offers students an excellent introduction to college life and to the world of further education.
It is aimed at those returning to education, students who may require additional support with their studies or personal life, students with no previous qualifications or those who have not yet decided on a vocational pathway. The course is delivered over three campuses which are Graig (Llanelli), Pibwrlwyd (Carmarthen) and Ammanford.
You will have the opportunity to undertake taster sessions in a variety of vocational areas and attend work experience placements.
The Fresh Start tutor team are experienced and skilled in delivering teaching and learning to students requiring additional support and motivation to re-engage them into education.
Many aspects of the course are based around active team building sessions to help you build confidence and team skills, much of which is delivered as part of the Duke of Edinburgh bronze award and The Princes Trust Personal Development and Employability Skills Award. Skills development in numeracy and literacy are also targeted throughout the year.
Towards the end of the course, students will receive support and guidance to help them select an appropriate progression route.
The course supports opportunities to progress onto the college’s foundation course or onto other training opportunities.
The programme is delivered in a highly-supported learning environment.

Vocational units are assessed internally through assignments and tutor observations. Skills are assessed through written assessments.
No formal entry requirements. Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview.
Learners progressing from a course at Coleg Sir Gar will have different entry requirements to include - successful completion and engagement on the current programme of study, proven skills development, good attendance levels and will be in receipt of a positive reference.
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £45 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
