This course covers the compulsory National Curriculum Programme of Study for Science in England and Wales. Students learn about how scientists validate their knowledge of the world, and investigate how science impacts on society.
Students study modules in Biology (Adaptation, Evolution and Body Maintenance), Chemistry (The Earth and its Resources) and Physics (Energy, Radiation and the Universe) as well as three short controlled assessments which involve research, hypothesis testing and experiments.
This course gives a broad overview of science and the role of the scientific community in our society.
It is an essential part of education at level 2 and prepares students for all areas of further education.

The course is assessed by three one hour examinations in Biology, Chemistry and Physics in June and by three short controlled assessments.
Learners under 19 years of age are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
All other learners are required to pay the GCSE course fee of £122 prior to enrolment.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits.
As the course is taught online, access to a PC, laptop or tablet and internet connection are essential.
No formal requirements but a background in secondary school science is desirable.
