As part of the course, you are required to undertake work experience that will allow you to use the transferable skills that you will learn at college.

Programme Features
The college has a working salon open to the public, which provides you with a real working environment and allows you to gain a sense of how it will feel to work in the industry.
There is an emphasis on supporting you in becoming an independent learner through individual planning, target setting and development.
Students have a thriving programme of activities, trips and events that include taking part in national competitions with progression routes to international competitions.
You will be invited to engage in projects with local clubs, schools and community groups to gain an insight into employability opportunities within the sector. The opportunity to run and lead such events will develop confidence and communication skills.
Programme Content
The course is made up of units that may include:
Follow health and safety in the salon
Introduction to the hair and beauty sector
Providing basic manicure treatment
Providing basic pedicure treatment
Basic make-up application
Skin care
Working with others in the hair and beauty sector
Alongside your beauty qualification, you will be given the opportunity to improve your grades by either taking GCSE resits or Essential Skills in both literacy and numeracy, which will enable you to progress on to further courses as well as increasing your confidence in career options.

Entry Requirements
Suitability for this course will be assessed at interview and through a practical skills test.
You will need:
A positive attitude to learning a vocational skill
A minimum of 4 GCSE’s at grade D-G which include English or Welsh (first language), maths and science will be an advantage.
English and maths are an integral part of the course. Students who do not yet have the necessary grades at C or above will receive additional teaching and support to study for either GCSE or Essential Skills, depending on prior GCSE grades.
Additional Costs
All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
You will have access to a range of equipment and resources but in addition, consumable products and a uniform will need to be purchased. This information will be given prior to your start date.
You will need to provide your own stationery and may also incur costs if the department arranges educational visits relating to your course.
