Ambassador Scholarships.

Coleg Sir Gâr provides approximately 60 Ambassador Scholarships annually for Further Education students starting a Level 3 course for the first time. 

Applicants should preferably have contributed to community life in school and be proven achievers. Successful applicants must be confident and competent communicators and should be willing to contribute in a supportive capacity at a  variety of College events throughout the  year December 2023 - December 2024. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your leadership and communication skills. Whilst you will be  supporting College life, the College is able to provide you with an opportunity to participate in a programme that will undoubtedly prove advantageous when submitting University and employment applications. 

New course first year Ambassador students receive an allocation of Ambassador clothing together with financial assistance (£100 paid in two instalments December 2023 and July 2024). This can contribute  to College costs such as books, travel, accommodation, equipment etc. 

New Course First Year Ambassador Students are accountable to:

  • Campus  Directors,
  • Faculty Managers,
  • designated  members of the Faculty Management  Teams,
  • Christy Anson-Harries, Director of  Recruitment, Progression and Partnerships and
  • Mandy Wyrwoll, Marketing Manager. 

Students are appointed for one year December 2023 to December 2024 - NB: Foundation Art students for 6 months December 2023 to July 2024. Students  interested in undertaking the role will be required to submit a brief application in  September 2023 and if successful to  attend a short interview in October 2023.

THE AMBASSADOR ROLE
  • Promote the College as a whole,  internally and externally, whilst also  promoting their respective Faculty area  of study as required 
  • The successful candidates are likely to be  asked to help support with the delivery of  promotional presentations, online and in  person 
  • Be available as requested by the  Directorate of Learner Progression and  Faculty Directors to assist with the  following events:  
    • Open Evenings, virtual and physical 
    • Prize Evenings
    • Parent Evenings
    • Partner School Taster Day Talks in Schools
    • Partner School Taster Day Sessions in College
    • Partner School Year 11 Talks 
    • Welcome important guests to Coleg Sir Gâr
SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Proven achiever in Secondary School with evidence of having contributed to school community life 
  • Pleasant disposition, engaging  personality 
  • Ability to communicate easily and  effectively 
  • Confident and able to demonstrate the  ability to further develop leadership potential 
  • Willingness to engage with current, and potential partners, and the general public.

Applications should be submitted to your base campus office before 4pm on Friday, 27th October 2023 for the attention of Christy Anson-Harries, Director of Recruitment, Progression and Partnerships.

SELECTION PROCEDURE

In considering applications all relevant  selection criteria will be taken into account. Selection is made on the basis of  information provided within the Ambassador Scholarship application form  with the final decision made at interview / audition by an Ambassador Scholarship  Awards Panel in October 2023.

NOTIFICATION OF AWARDS

Applicants will be contacted by email as soon as possible in November after all interviews have been completed. The Awards Panel reserves the right to amend any decision made.

TO SUMMARISE
  • Do you have a pleasant, courteous, polite  welcoming disposition? 
  • Can you work easily within a team?
  • Do you have good communication skills?
  • Do you have enthusiasm and passion for your subjects/vocational area/college?
  • Do you have the confidence to engage with prospective students, parents, employers, visiting dignitaries? 
  • Would you be willing to contribute to College events such as open days, partner school taster days, special events?

Please consult with current Student  Ambassadors, your Personal Tutor, Course Leader, Parents/Guardians, all of whom will be pleased to offer you advice and guidance with your application. 

NB: The provisional Calendar of Events for 2023/2024 will be provided to all  applicants. 

Great care is taken to ensure that each Ambassador only contributes in part to the college/campus programme of events ensuring that the Ambassador role does not interfere with programmes of study at  the College.

APPOINTMENT OF SECOND YEAR FURTHER EDUCATION  FACULTY STUDENT AMBASSADORS

48 vacancies exist at the end of the academic year 23/24 enabling 1st year FE students who have not been engaged as new course 1st year Ambassador Students to become Faculty Student Ambassadors during their 2nd year of study 2023 - 2024  ie. 6 per Faculty. 

Students completing their 1st year course who have excelled during the year will be  invited by Faculty Management Teams to become 2nd Year Ambassadors for 1 year between June 2023 and June 2024. 

2nd Year Ambassador students whilst not receiving a financial reward will receive complementary Ambassador clothing. Successful students will be able to refer to their Faculty Ambassador roles when submitting applications for Higher Education and employment.  

2nd Year Ambassador Students are accountable to:  

  • Faculty Managers and / or designated members of the Faculty Management Team.
ROLE
  • Assist at Open Evenings, Prize days and any other noteable occasions or events within the Faculty calendar 
  • Assist in meeting and looking after Faculty area guests eg. student interviews, Enrolment Days, Parent Evenings, School Taster Days, Guest  Speakers, Employer visits, Consultative  Committees, Partnership Events, More Able and Talented Sessions
  • Assist Faculty staff in delivering presentations at promotional events 
SELECTION CRITERIA
  • Very good attendance, application, and attainment during the previous year 2022 - 23 within the Faculty 
  • Confident and effective communicators
  • Warm, welcoming disposition, prepared to engage with visitors and meet new people 
  • Easily identifiable role model for both  prospective and first year students
  • Demonstrate proven leadership skills 
  • Recipient of student of the month award in year 1 (if applicable within Faculty)
  • Meet specific Faculty requirements as identified by the Faculty Team
