Competition to find best start-up

A competition is being launched to find the best new business idea from students at Coleg Sir Gâr, Coleg Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire College.

The collaborative Regional Enterprise Competition, run by the colleges’ enterprise coordinators, Big Ideas Wales and Focus Carmarthen Hub, is looking for start-up ideas in the sectors of tourism, food, retail, care and creative industries.

A number of challenges have been set-up within each category for students to respond with their business solutions and the competition is being launched online on Wednesday, November 18 at midday.

Judges from Big Ideas Wales and Focus Carmarthen Hub will be looking at skills in understanding competitors, customers, innovation and creativity, business planning, cash flow forecasts and digital literacy in a competition that focuses on developing entrepreneurial talent in Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.

The winner, who will receive £150 and professional business mentoring, will be announced on March 2 at an online event.

Becky Pask, enterprise coordinator for Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion said: “I am really passionate about this competition and I think we’re so lucky to work with such incredible partners across the three counties.

“Entrepreneurship is embedded within the college curriculum with support available for anyone with a business idea so I really hope we see lots of entries from all the colleges involved, it’s such a great opportunity.”
