College runners come top in cross country trials
Coleg Sir Gâr students dominated the winning scores of the Welsh Schools Athletics Association U17s and U20s boys Virtual 4K Cross Country time trials.
Dominic Davies took the fastest time at first place with a 13 minute and 12 second finish, James Harries took second place with a time of 13 minutes and 17 seconds and in third place with a time of 13 minutes and 20 seconds, was Osian Williams.
Out of 47 runners, the college also celebrated an eighth and ninth place won respectively by Dafydd Lloyd and Daniel Jones.
The Coleg Sir Gâr runners are all part of the college’s Elite Performer Programme which offers bespoke and professional performer support for athletes who are studying across all areas of the college.
Rob Kirk, sports science leader at Coleg Sir Gâr said: "We are extremely proud of the positive attitude and tireless commitment displayed by all of our Elite Performer Programme athletes.
“This has been an unbelievably tough year for everyone, but their resilience and character has shone through producing podium performances for Virtual 4K Cross Country event for CollegesWales Sport and Welsh Schools Athletics.
“This Virtual 4K Cross Country event is an excellent example of collaborating with both sporting organisations, with the aim of boosting participation and involvement during this challenging time.”
The college would like to recognise Steve Jones, WSAA support officer and Welsh Athletics compliance officer, for his support of CollegesWales Sport and for always including college sport within the Welsh Schools set-up.
