Students achieve medals at UK skills final

 

Coleg Sir Gâr principal Dr Andrew Cornish has congratulated students on their participation and medal wins at the WorldSkills UK final.

Mia Jenkins won bronze in the foundation skills health and social care category and Kieran Jones-Rees won bronze in the plastering category.

The college invited its competitors to the live online streaming of the medal ceremony where winners were announced which was presented by TV presenter Steph McGovern.

WorldSkills is part of a global movement which supports young people across the world via competition-based training, assessment and benchmarking with national teams aiming for world-class standards in a biennial skills Olympics.

The competitions are designed by industry experts and assess and individual’s knowledge, practical skills and employability attributes against a set criteria.

Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion vice principal Vanessa Cashmore said: “I am phenomenally proud of all our learners that competed representing Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion and I’m thrilled that we won six medals and a commendation in total.

“I am grateful to all the hard work by learners, employers and staff.”
