Coach up for Actif award
A Coleg Sir Gâr coach has been shortlisted for an Actif Sirgar award in the category of High-Performance Sports Coach of the Year.
Jonathan Garcia, director of the college’s football academy is one of three shortlisted for the award which seeks qualified coaches who have achieved success in coaching at regional, national or international level.
A UEFA qualified coach with an FA level four youth licence qualification, currently Jonathan is responsible for football development at Coleg Sir Gâr where teams compete in the Association of Colleges category two and three leagues as well developing individual players to national and international level.
As well as managing the college’s new sports centre, he is also academy director for Welsh Premier League side Llanelli Town AFC competing in the FAW Welsh Academy, assistant manager for Welsh Colleges U18s squad and is involved in the SAFIB Centenary Shield representing the Schoolboy Associations of the British Isles countries.
Jonathan is currently preparing for the 2020 Roma Caput Mundi Tournament next year which involves competition from all over Europe and he is delighted at being shortlisted. “It’s great that sports and coaching is being recognised at a local level,” he said. “I wish all contenders the best of luck.”
The annual Actif Carmarthenshire Sports Awards recognise the sporting achievements and successes of individuals, sports clubs, school teams as well as acknowledging the contribution made by dedicated coaches and volunteers.
