A festival of modern foreign languages (MFL) has been held at Coleg Sir Gâr to give pupils from the college’s Llanelli partner schools a linguistic tour of their future options.
The event offered pupils interactive workshop type sessions in German, Spanish, French, Italian and career routes into languages.
Highlighting the various career opportunities in languages, Kate Roberts from Routes into Languages Cymru, gave examples of how languages can open an array of new and exciting possibilities. Students analysed current job adverts and the skills that were required.
The college was delighted to welcome Dr Giavanna Donzelli and Ms Christiane Guenther from Swansea University who worked closely with the pupils and introduced them to Italian and German.
Pupils had the experience of engaging with Italian language and culture and in addition, German was delivered encompassing rap music as an innovative learning tool.
Coleg Sir Gâr AS MFL students delivered a hands-on session about festivals in France and Spain.
Nina Theodoulou-Evans, lecturer in A-level languages at Coleg Sir Gâr organised the event, she said: “We were delighted to welcome 85 KS4 MFL pupils from St John Lloyd, Bryngwyn and Coedcae.
“It was a great event which undoubtedly provided students with an invaluable insight into all the advantages of studying a modern foreign language. We hope this is the first of many such events.”
