Learner excellence celebrated at awards
Coleg Sir Gâr and Coleg Ceredigion celebrated its annual Achievement of Excellence Awards evening with a ceremony aimed at celebrating the best of the best.
Held at Ffwrnes, over 50 learners, ranging from those studying apprenticeships, degrees, extended diplomas and A-levels, were recognised for their significant achievements and their personal journeys to success.
National and international sporting honours were also celebrated along with performance honours and enterprise initiatives.
Coleg Sir Gâr student Phoebe McLavy was commended for her international success competing in WorldSkills competitions where she has won medals for the UK as far as Russia and Australia for her skills in hairdressing, supported by her employer Morgan Edward salon.
Coleg Ceredigion student Tom Powell was recognised for national representation for joinery and cabinet making where he won gold at WorldSkills UK Live, the largest skills competition in the UK held at Birmingham’s NEC.
Ioan Hefin, an actor who has appeared in Hinterland, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and recent Netflix productions, took to the stage as compère for the evening.
Sarah Hopkins, director of learner progression said: “We were delighted to welcome learners and their families to our annual excellence awards where so many achievements are celebrated.
“Many have won prestigious awards and commendations through sheer determination and hard work, and some have achieved excellence by overcoming significant difficulties.
“As a college we celebrate the success of all. At this event however, we shine a light on the highest achievers, the most gifted, the most improved and those who make an outstanding contribution to the college community.
“We are extremely proud of our learner success.”
