Young judges’ success at New Zealand show
Two agriculture students from Coleg Sir Gâr have won young judging awards at New Zealand’s largest agricultural show.
The Gelli Aur campus students were at New Zealand Agricultural Show as part of their college’s educational tour.
Taking first and second place in the New Zealand Young Judges Championship were 19 year-old Sioned Thomas and runner-up 18 year-old Dani Harley. “We had to check the overall health of Perendale wool sheep including their ribs, how they walked, their hindquarters and their teeth for the importance of breeding which is was challenging as it’s a breed I’ve never heard of before,” said Sioned.
Katie Court, who has been coordinating the overseas visit at Coleg Sir Gâr added: “The experience gained from working at the show for Sioned and Dani has been a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we hope the overseas tour experience has also impacted on our other learners.”
