Programme Description


The BA programme enables students who already hold a related Foundation Degree or equivalent to complete an additional 120 credits to top up to a BA (Hons) qualification, validated by the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

Delivery of the course is blended, which means that students will be provided with a mix of face to face and online learning. Students are expected to engage in self-directed, independent study when not in timetabled lessons. Programme Content


All modules are subject to successful revalidation in March 2022 and are subject to change at any time during your course. Where appropriate, students will be consulted regarding any changes being considered to course content. Modules include:

  • Leadership in Social Care Services for Children and Adults, 20 credits
  • Seldom Heard Groups, 20 credits
  • Voice, Choice, Control for Children and Young People, 20 credits
  • Challenging Behaviour, 20 credits
  • Living Longer, Ageing Well, 20 credits
  • Independent Research Project, 40 credits (core module)

Progression & Employment


Students will have the opportunity to progress from the BA to a variety of postgraduate study eg. in teaching, an MSc in social work or research. The BA degree will be a useful, flexible qualification to a wide variety of careers. Achieving an Honours degree demonstrates higher level skills which appeal to prospective employers.

Method of Assessment


Assessment is continuous and by assignments. There are no examinations.

Entry Requirements


Foundation degree or HND in Care or a similar qualification equivalent to two years of higher education: 120 credits at both level 4 and 5. This could come from a mixture of forms of study, eg. Open University, professional qualification in social work or nursing or HNC.

Mature students with relevant care experience may be credited for their prior education and training upon submission to and approval of a portfolio of evidence by UWTSD. All students are interviewed. 

Additional Costs


There is no additional fee, however, it is likely that you will incur additional costs for personal equipment and for course related excursions.

Graduate Attributes Framework

This Framework aims to develop your professional skills and competence alongside your academic subject knowledge. You’ll study up to 40 credits per level throughout your programme from the Graduate Attributes Framework.  The Graduate Attribute modules are designed to enable you to develop, and evidence, a range of career-focused skills related to your subject area. These skills include digital competency, research and project management, as well as such personal competencies as communication, creativity, self-reflection, resilience and problem-solving.
