Programme Description

This level 2 learning programme includes a City & Guilds L2 Certificate. This course has been designed to satisfy candidates who want to progress, but are not ready for a level 3 programme and who wish to acquire level 2 engineering competences in a sheltered, controlled environment.

An opportunity to resit English and Mathematics GCSEs is available with this course, essential requirements for progression to level 3 engineering courses.

Programme Features

This programme enables students to provide evidence that they can perform a particular job or skill. It provides a good foundation with flexibility to meet both current and future engineering practices

The programme has been designed to support candidates who wish to acquire engineering competencies in a sheltered and controlled environment

The progression path is to foundation apprenticeship and / or EAL level 3. Candidates are also encouraged to take GCSE maths, English and science resits where applicable.

The programme includes coverage of a City & Guilds L2 Certificate and GCSE Maths/English resits as applicable.

Progression & Employment

The programme provides evidence that you can do a particular job or skill to level 2 standard and may help you progress to employment or to a higher level NVQ/EAL or similar qualification. It will develop learners with broad-based engineering skills and help them decide on a particular engineering specialisation (ie. mechanical or electrical).

Method of Assessment

Continuous assessment of practical coursework, portfolio development, assignments and class tests.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirement for this award is a minimum of two GCSEs graded C and two graded D. This should include Maths and English or Welsh first language at grade D minimum, and acceptance is subject to interview including diagnostic testing.

Candidates must demonstrate the basic skills required for this course, with a keen desire to achieve an engineering qualification.

Additional Costs

All engineering full-time courses which include mechanical, electrical/electronic/fabrication and welding and motor vehicle, are fully funded. 

The learner will also be required to provide their own stationery and basic classroom equipment appropriate to their course (eg pens and a calculator). 

All learners are required to pay an administration fee of £25 prior to enrolment.
