A Foundation Apprenticeship is a work based learning programme at Level 2, where the learner is "earning while learning". The programme is aimed at learners over the age of 16. The Apprentice will be employed and receive at least the minimum Apprenticeship wage. The Apprentice will attend college on a day release basis and should achieve the Level 2 Apprenticeship Framework within the agreed timescale.

To complete a Foundation Apprenticeship will take between 12 and 24 months dependent on ability and prior experience.

All learners will be supported by a Training Adviser/Assessor who will monitor progress towards achieving targets on a regular basis (every 56 to 61 days)
The Training Adviser/Assessor will liaise closely with the employer to ensure that qualifications are achieved within timescale
The Training Adviser/Assessor will assess the Apprentice in the workplace as and when required (every 56 to 61 days)
Programme Content
Learners following this Foundation Apprenticeship will have to achieve a framework of qualifications, which will include core and additional units, the learner, employer and training advisor together will select additional units. The choice of additional units will be individual to each learner based on what they do in placement.

Essential Skills Wales Communication Level 1
(In some circumstances previously achieved proxy qualifications may be used)
Progression & Employment
Learners who have successfully completed this Foundation Apprenticeship can progress onto an Apprenticeship at Level 3.
Method of Assessment
Portfolio coursework, written and verbal questioning, work based observations and work based evidence.
Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for the Level 2 Foundation Apprenticeship in Agriculture, however, there are qualifications and experience that will help learners understand the sector prior to starting : -
Level 1 Award/Certificate/Diploma in Work-based Agriculture
Currently working within the industry
Training Advisers will undertake an initial interview and learners will complete basic skills screener in order to ensure they are suited on the correct level either one, two, three or four. There are eligibility criteria requirements that all potential Apprentices have to fulful. This will be assessed at interview. These programmes are part financed by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.
