Support when you need it

Very few students manage to get through their studies without needing some additional support or advice at some point. Often, these can be given by the course tutors but during the duration of a course most will need to seek that specialist advice or support on an issue that may not be directly course related.

Across all campuses there are friendly and approachable staff carrying out various support roles and we will make sure that you are put in touch with the right person to help you if we can’t do it ourselves. Sometimes that might involve an external agency who we will already have excellent links with. You can make an appointment or drop-in and see the learning support team at any time. Whatever support or advice you need, regardless of how small or big the issue, as serious or trivial you consider it to be, it is highly likely that the learning support team have already come across it before.

Use your Welsh - don’t lose it!

As the college prepares its students for the future workplace in Wales and beyond, you will experience a bilingual learning environment. Students are encouraged and supported to maintain and improve Welsh language skills within their learning programme and during work placements as part of employability development. Our aim is for the Welsh language to be a natural part of Coleg Sir Gâr through nurturing a Welsh ethos, supporting education and Welsh culture.

As a Welsh speaking A-level learner, you have the option to be part of a Welsh language tutorial. It’s important to remember that you have the right to submit work in Welsh, even if your subject is delivered in English. Your work can be translated for marking, if needed.

There will be many opportunities to put your Welsh skills into practice during social activities organised regularly on campus, which celebrate our Welsh identity and the cultural diversity of the college. You can also participate in visits and events to experience the use of the Welsh language in varied contexts in our local communities.

A Levels and Elite Sport Support

Every elite athlete in individual or team sports, is given the opportunity to continue their training within the A-level timetable. We will assign you to a tutorial that allows you to attend training sessions twice a week and to take part in inter-collegiate and all-Wales competitions on a Wednesday afternoon.

We know how to help you make the most of your time with us, achieving your goals of progression in your sporting field and in getting the best grades possible in your chosen subjects.

We work with our Sports Academy coaches to ensure you are looked after at critical times, in the lead up to exams; just before critical competitions; in training schedules; recovery after injury and in learner support.

If you have the ambition and the skills, we can help you pursue your ambition and reach your goal. (Click here to find out more about our Sporting Academies)
