The Hair and Beauty department run vibrant programmes for their learners to provide them with a clear understanding of this sector in order to progress into employment and/or higher education. They offer full time and part time courses from Level 1 through to Level 4 as well as delivering a provision to our partner schools. The department have strong links with stakeholders that are able to provide industry links to all of our learners at all levels of their learning. A commercial salon is based at Graig and gives the learners an opportunity to get a real sense of the industry whilst being mentored by our staff in preparation for the industry.

The college is committed to delivering the highest standards of training and development through our work based learning contract, supporting the regions employers and employees to improve skills and meet the WG Regional Skills Priorities within a wide range of sectors. All activities linked to this role will involve extensive collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including employers, apprentices, faculties and central college teams. Effective employer engagement will form part of the role to promote the college’s products and services.

The post holder must demonstrate initiative, good organisational skills and sound time management skills. The post holder will be expected to work to an agreed caseload and as such will be asked to work extensively off site to meet the demands of the role. The exact caseload number will be agreed with the Work Based Learning Manager and will vary according to geographic distribution of apprentices and travel involved, but will be in the range between 50 and 60 apprentices for a Training Advisor only role and between 30 and 35 for a dual Training Advisor Assessor role.

Learners within the Faculty partake in a wide range of extra-curricular activities and are supported by a well embedded tutorial system.  Health and Social Care and Foundation courses are run predominantly on Graig Campus, Childcare and Entry in Ammanford and Fresh Start in Pibwrlwyd.

The Faculty Area of Health, care, foundation and entry, forms part of the Faculty of Dinefwr. The post will offer an opportunity to work as a core member of the Entry Level team contributing to the full range of activities within the course, and may be asked to contribute to other courses within the faculty

The Agriculture Curriculum area forms part of the Construction & Agriculture faculty. The provision is based on the Gelli Aur Campus and includes Agriculture, Landbased Engineering, Horticulture, Forestry and Countryside Management courses delivered to Higher Education, Further Education, Work Based Learning and School 14-16 learners. The Curriculum Area team has over  15 full-time and part-time   teaching, assessing and support staff. It also offers significant commercial, community and project activities and has an envious record of skills development. The Curriculum Area  has extensive links with industry and associated stakeholder groups. 

The College is the lead provider for Agricultural provision at level three in Wales, with a purpose built Campus at Gelli Aur including a science laboratory, seminar rooms, ICT suites and engineering workshops. Our aim is to ensuring students enjoy a rewarding and stimulating learning experience that prepares them for a lifetime of employment in the land based sector.

The post provides the opportunity for a pro-active person to deliver high quality teaching and learning on Landbased programmes at the Gelli Aur Campus.

Animal Centre Coordinator

The postholder will take responsibility for the health and welfare of the animals at the centre working with the Section Head to maintain high standards of animal care in the delivery of education and training at Coleg Sir Gar. The postholder will work with the Section Head to ensure the safe, effective and efficient deployment of resources, both physical and human through regular monitoring and review. They will be responsible for managing legislative requirements for the animal collection and facilities and will work with the Section Head and to develop income generation/ cost recovery opportunities for the Animal Centre.
